There many ways to be a winner, no matter how many points you score or how well you can handle a ball.
That’s just one of the healthy messages expressed by Special Olympics Georgia.
Rock your boat for a good cause at the 14th Annual Special Olympics Georgia Sailing Regatta, Friday — Sunday, September 13-15, 2013.
Southern Sailing Club sponsors this year’s event, which takes place on the magnificent waters of Lake Lanier at Sunrise Cove.
Special Olympics Georgia’s purpose is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
These events give many special athletes ways to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
The Open Sailing Regatta has many facets:
- two days of racing
- awards
- silent auction
- athlete speaker
- door prizes
- BBQ and
- live music from Poverty Level Band.
The Skipper’s Reception is scheduled for Saturday night. Even if rain makes you seasick and the only boat you own fits in your bathtub, come anyway for dinner and dancing … and the silent auction with art, jewelry, sailing gear, wine tasting trips, gift certificates and much more!
