Gainesville & Buford Win State Football Titles

ghsHow ’bout them Red Elephants?

The Red Elephants of Gainesville High School scored a fabulous win on Friday, December 14, 2012, over Ware County by 49-14 to make a permanent mark on Georgia football.

This is the first state championship for 5-A Gainesville after 107 years of team play.

The Red Elephants were spectacular.  They took advantage of the many breaks offered them by their valiant opponents from Ware County.  The way they played tonight, I believe Gainesville could have beaten them Dawgs.

Buford, another great Lake Lanier team, won the state AAA championship over St. Pius by a score of 10-3.

This is Buford’s eighth victory at the Big Dance in the past dozen years.  It won’t be their last.

Congratulations to both teams, all the coaches, all the moms who drove their kids to zillions of practices and to all the dads and grandparents who are proud of their boys.

Y’all rock.
