Joanna Cloud, executive director of the Lake Lanier Association, and her associates are dedicated to making our favorite lake clean, full and safe.  The most visible way they work toward that goal can be seen first-hand at the 28th Annual Lake Lanier Shore Sweep on Saturday, September 24, 2016.
Lake Lanier Association organizes more than 1,000 volunteers who collectively collect about 30 tons of trash along the shores Lanier annually.
The mobile app they used last year was such a success they’re using it again to identify the precise places where junk litters the shoreline.  In 2015, they had 750+ reports of trash and they dispatched volunteers to clean it up in a jiffy.
There are a dozen locations to take trash during the 28th Annual Lake Lanier Shore Sweep:
- Balus Creek Boat Ramp
- Big Creek Boat Ramps
- Aqualand
- Bald Ridge
- Gainesville Marina
- Port Royale Marina
- Lake Lanier Islands
- Lake Lanier Olympic Park
- Don Carter State Park
- Gwinnett, Longwood and War Hill Parks.
Advance registration is not required, but it helps them put volunteers where they’re needed most. Â If you’d like to help out, bring a pair of gloves, shoes that cover your toes, a big smile and a willingness to have fun! Â Here’s a good deal: Volunteers who turn in a full bag of trash get a free Shore Sweep T-shirt. Â (Try that at the mall.)
Shore Sweep for 2016 begins at 8 AM and only goes until 1 PM, on Saturday, September 24th.
