Hall County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nicole Bailes reports there was a shooting at Lanier Islands on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 12:45 AM.  That’s her job.  She does it well.

I was at LanierWorld playing in the Wave Pool all day Saturday with two little kids. We felt totally secure.

According to Deputy Bailes, deputies received a call of an active shooter at Lanier Islands and responded to the lake houses.  They were advised that one person had been shot and the shooter was still on the property.

Officers from many law enforcement agencies made contact with people attending a birthday party.

We regret to inform you that once the scene was secured, deputies located 23-year-old Malik Davis of Union City with a single gunshot wound to the chest. Davis was transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he received emergency surgery.  He is in stable condition.

Investigators say several friends rented the lake house to celebrate a birthday party. Most attendees were from metro Atlanta. Witnesses describe three African American males who showed up uninvited. A verbal dispute began and escalated to a physical dispute.  Witnesses say Davis tried to break the fight up when shots were fired.

The three unknown males fled.  Investigators are working to identify the subjects.

The case remains under investigation.
