A truck loaded with 6,000 gallons of cooking oil wrecked on Browns Bridge Road/Route 369 on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at about 8:45 AM, near the Four Mile Creek bridge and very close to Forsyth County Fire Department’s Station 9.

The one-vehicle accident is thought to have occurred after the truck crested a hill and tried to avoid traffic that had stopped for a school bus.  Thousands of gallons of cooking oil spilled out after the truck overturned.

Browns Bridge Road/Route 369 between Jot Em Down Road and Little Mill Road will be down to one lane for the next day or two to allow for cleanup of the cooking oil.  You are urged to avoid the area.

Officials are concerned about runoff into Lake Lanier.

The man driving the truck was not seriously injured, but was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation.

We are thankful for the quick and professional response by the agencies who helped mitigate the effects of this accident, including the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Fire Department, the Georgia DOT and Georgia’s Environmental Protection Division.
