No Roadblocks for July 4th Driving

Enjoy your family vacation!

Our pal Teri Pope from GA’s Department of Transportation has dynamite news for folks driving to or from Lake Lanier this July 4th holiday.

The DOT will restrict construction-related lane closures beginning at noon, Wednesday, July 3rd  through 5 AM on Monday, July 8th.

Sorry, but this doesn’t mean there won’t be traffic delays.  There will always be morons who will strap seven wobbly bicycles to the backs of their RVs with old bungee cords that are more stretched out than you-know-who’s capri pants.

District Engineer Bayne Smith says, “We anticipate heavy traffic over the Independence holiday week. To lessen the impact on traffic, the Georgia Department of Transportation has restricted construction lane closures on interstates and major state routes.”

The Department reminds travelers to exercise caution nonetheless as heavy holiday traffic is expected.

  • Crews may be still be working in close proximity to highways.
  • Safety concerns may require some long-term lane closures remain in place.
  • Incident management or emergency, maintenance-related lane closures could become necessary at any time.
