Hawgin’ on Lanier BBQ Championship

hawgin 2013The north end of Lake Lanier always seems to be less crowded and frantic than down by the dang dam, imho.

Laurel Park, however, breaks that mold this weekend when the Hawgin’ on Lanier BBQ Championship returns — courtesy of the Gainesville Jaycees — as dozens of the South’s best chefs frantically prepare the galaxy’s best BBQ, for glory, charity and for us to eat!

Last year’s event was a tasty treat, but this year’s music — Jimmy Buffet style — adds a secret ingredient that can’t be beat.

There will be more arts & crafts vendors and plenty of stuff for the kids to enjoy while you savor the sauces and pick away at pork, Friday & Saturday, May 17th & 18th.

YearOne — one of America’s premier parts suppliers for muscle cars — is organizing a car show that the whole family will enjoy.

Friday night, May 17th, you’re invited to hear Parrothead — an outstanding Jimmy Buffet tribute band — play on the shores of Lake Lanier.  Tickets are $15 to sit up close and personal … or save a few bucks and moor your boat near Laurel Park and listen for free.  That will save you plenty of money that you can donate to the Jaycees!

Here’s how your donations will be used:

“Started in 1997, GUT CHECK was created by the Gainesville Jaycees to teach young men discipline and leadership in a safe and structured, high-energy environment.  A scholarship program free of charge for the participants, GUT CHECK is held over the course of three days each July.  The program begins on a Thursday afternoon with intense activities and culminates with a graduation ceremony on Sunday morning.

“Since 1955 the Gainesville Jaycees have been providing Christmas to needy children in the Hall County Community. The Jaycees raise the funds to provide Christmas to over 400+ children in Hall County, done exclusively through private donations and old-fashioned fundraising. Once these funds are collected, the Jaycees meet on a Saturday at Wal-Mart at 6:00AM. to buy the gifts for the children who have been chosen though our special partnerships with local schools, counselors, principals, etc. Each child receives warm clothing, shoes, educational toys and items necessary for daily living.”

Hawgin’ on Lanier makes life on the lake more delicious than ever.
