Atlanta Biologicals, Inc., a privately held German life sciences company, held a groundbreaking in Oakwood, Georgia, for a new special purpose facility for its North American headquarters, production, and research and development operations.
Atlanta Biologicals, now in its 20th year in the U.S., is a leading manufacturer and supplier of cell culture reagents used in biotechnology. The company’s principal end-users are renowned biomedical research institutions and biopharmaceutical corporations that pioneer in research to diagnose and treat diseases.
Atlanta Biologicals acquired six acres of land at Tanners Creek Business Park in Oakwood to construct a 36,000 square foot building. The new facility is expected to be up and running by the end of 2013, with plans for additional expansion in the future.
“Atlanta Biologicals has been in Georgia for over 20 years, and our success and growth created a need to search for a larger site,” said Atlanta Biologicals CEO Gerhard Baade. “Hall County was selected for our new corporate headquarters and state-of-the-art biotech manufacturing facility in recognition of the growth opportunities and resources Hall County has to offer.”
Lt. Governor Casey Cagle said the announcement “is tremendous news for Hall County and all of Northeast Georgia. Projects like Atlanta Biologicals are great reminders of how important a world-class educational system and quality transportation infrastructure are to our ability to compete in a 21st Century global economy. I applaud the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Commissioners, the City of Oakwood, Atlanta Biologicals, and the countless community partners that came together to make [this] a reality.”
Chairman Tom Oliver of the Hall County Commission congratulated the owners, managers and associates at Atlanta Biologicals. He said, “This is a new beginning of a long-term partnership, and it’s a validation of the economic development efforts and partnership to support businesses like Atlanta Biologicals in their efforts to create jobs and investment in Hall County.”
President and CEO of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Kit Dunlap remarked, “Atlanta Biologicals will be a great addition to the business community. Our economic development efforts have targeted growing life sciences businesses, and we will support Atlanta Biologicals as the newest member of our existing industry program.”
