Once a year, depending on the weather, a marvelous day of fun lands at the Gainesville Airport. The name — the Cracker Fly-In — is as unusual as the odd variety of flying machines you’ll see on display.
If you have a few extra bucks and you ain’t skeered, hop in a helicopter, snazzy new plane or even a restored P-51 Mustang for a spin around Hall County!
There is always something fun to do around Lake Lanier.
Few events are more fun than the 2017 Cracker Fly-In.

There are times when thunderstorms and bad weather have forced the cancellation of a Fly-In, but not this year. There’s always a chance of showers.
The forecast calls for a partly cloudy summer day with a high near 90. Apply some sunscreen, pop on a hat, drag the kids away from their life-sucking video games and head to the airport.
Yes, there will be food. Plenty of it.
- Pancakes will be hot off the grill shortly after 7:30 AM, with sausage, pancakes, juice or coffee for a mere $5.
- Lunch provided by Hickory Pig BBQ offering BBQ sandwiches.
- Boy Scout Troop 203 will sell Hot Dogs, Burgers, Snacks and more.
- Pico’s Hotdogs will be selling gourmet Hot Dogs located near the Helicopters.
- Kona Ice snow cones will be located at the Kids Zone.
The best part? For less than you’d pay for a couple of tacos, you can spend the day exploring very cool airplanes for $5.00 per adult. Better yet, kids under 12 get in for free with a paying adult.
Over 150 aircraft expected from all over the Southeast, including warbirds, historic, homebuilt, helicopters and more. Warbird Rides, DC-3 Rides, Huey & Cobra Helicopter Rides. AT-11 Bomber, Lockheed Electra, J3 Cubs, Stearmans, Austin Healey cars and Military Trucks on static display.
Please Note: Although you may purchase rides on a variety of aircraft, you may not insist on having pilots buzz the homes of your crazoid neighbors who scared your pets with their fireworks displays on July 4th; nor may you “just drop a few” water balloons on their homes. Thank you.
