If you are older than 16 and younger than 65, you need a fishing license to cast off in Lake Lanier.  You can get a license one of three ways:

  • in person at a license dealer, such as sporting goods outlets, major discount retailers, marinas, bait and tackle shops and hardware stores (don’t forget your proof of residence)
  • by telephone:  (800) 366-2661
  • at http://georgiawildlife.dnr.state.ga.us/

Fees:

  • Sportsman’s: $60 (covers all fishing and hunting privileges in Georgia)
  • Season fishing:  $9
  • One-day fishing:  $3.50
  • Trout (in season):  $8
  • Wildlife Management Area:  $19
  • Combination hunting and fishing:  $17
  • Lifetime license, ages 2 and under:  $200
  • Lifetime license, ages 2-15:  $350
  • Lifetime license, ages 16 & older:  $500
  • Lifetime license, ages 60-65:  $95
  • Free to ages 65 & older
  • One-time license free to discharged military veterans
  • Nonresidents season fishing:  $24
  • Nonresidents one-day fishing:  $3.50
  • Nonresidents seven-day fishing:  $7
  • Nonresidents trout (in season):  $13
  • Nonresidents Wildlife Management Area:  $73
