Last year we reported that Great Wolf Resorts were planning to build a $130 million water park and resort at Mary Alice Park on the south end of Lake Lanier.
Despite the recent drought and recession, it seems that the development is still on track:
“The company continues to pursue projects in Connecticut, the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., and on the shores of Lake Lanier, near Atlanta, Ga.”

“The firm also has tentative plans to develop Great Wolf Lodge resorts near the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut, at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., and on the shores of Lake Lanier near Atlanta.”

Forsyth News quotes a Great Wolf spokesman Steve Shattuck as saying they “continue to make progress. Great Wolf and the city of Cumming are in complete agreement with respect to the current terms of the deal.”
The City of Cumming has been working hard to push the project and spokesman. The city currently leases Mary Alice Park from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Substantial building work has already been done to widen and improve roads into the park. The development would involve a 400- to 600-room hotel resort complex on more than 70 acres. However, several major obstacles still remain from securing rights to use the park, finishing the project designing the resort and of course, obtaining financing.
