Lake Lanier is seeing an unprecedented boost in the lake level. As it should with all of this rainfall. The current level is 1067.01 and yes it is continuing to rise. The lake is now only down by 3.99 feet. It is hard to believe that the lake has recovered so much water in such a little time. What a way to pull out of a drought!
I hope that all of you made it home safely tonight with the terrible road conditions. As with many of your commutes, my commute home was extended by 4 hours! If you are out on the roads please be mindful of other drivers that are too trying to make it around flooded streets. As the waters recede and the pages of history books are written, may it be said that the people of North Georgia stood by each other in this time of need.
This flood will no doubt go down in the history books. The water that fell was a double-edged sword. One one hand the water helped Lake Lanier, but on the other had it created havoc on metro Atlanta in the terms of property damage, roads, and lives. Right now I am hearing reports of 6 deaths because of the flood. Our thoughts and prayers go out the communities and families affected by the flood.
I’ll more information later as the lake level information becomes available.
