The Cumming city council has approved zoning for the first mixed use development on 77 acres within the city limits on Tuesday, August 18th. The project will be close to Lake Lanier, between GA 400 and Pilgrim Mill Road in Forsyth County.
The project is slated to include a high-end hotel, over 400,000 square feet of commercial/office and retail space, and over 180 residential units. The residential offerings will include 20 townhomes, 41 single-family homes, 150 apartment units, and 120 apartment or condominium units targeted to senior citizens.
The first phase will be the apartments and should break ground by spring of 2010. The developers believe they have worked hard to ensure that the project will be well received by the community and have set aside more than a quarter of the property as open space.
The development will be located west of Lake Lanier and just south of the city’s Pilgrim Mill project, which will include State Driver Services facilities, GA National Guard Armory, an aquatic center, and a North Georgia College and State University satellite campus.
