Four big events to tell you about on the lake this month.

First is this weekend: the US Canoe / Kayak Sprint Nationals are being held at the Olympic Venue on Clarks Bridge Road in Gainesville. Volunteers are still needed.

Also at the Olympic Venue is the Dragon Boat Festival on September 12th. There will be more than 50 teams and over 5,000 spectators attending.

The following weekend of September 19th is the Grass in the Grove Bluegrass Festival. 8 bands will be playing traditional and contemporary bluegrass at Shady Grove Campground in Cumming.

The same day is the Lake Lanier Poker Run to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Association of Atlanta.  There’s a chance to win the Grand Prize of $75,000.

Finally, if you didn’t yet know, in almost exactly one year’s time Lake Lanier will host its biggest event since the Olympics. The Forrest Wood Cup, known as the Super Bowl of fishing, will be here along with 10,000s of visitors.

Lake Lanier Fishing Report

We have done well on my boat using Capt. Mack’s white foil 1 oz. jigs, tipped with a live blueback or a Shadalicious paddle tail, fished 9 colors out at 3.0 mph. We have also done well on downlined bluebacks fished 40-80 feet deep in the mouths of mid-lake and southend creeks and out over the main river channel.
