It’s been nearly two years since I wrote last on the Big Creek Greenway so an update is due. You can review that post for information on which communities the trail will run by. For those of you that use the trail system, you know that Phases I,II & III are complete. What a great complement to the park systems of Forsyth County. I know a lot fo people who use the Greenway to bike and jog – it’s really great.

If you haven’t used it yet, you should. Phase I starts at McFarland Rd. and Phase III ends at Bethelview Rd. and is a total of 6.8 miles. The remaining two phases will span another 8 miles, running from Bethelview Rd. all the way to Sawnee Mountain Preserve.

I had a brief conversation with Tommy Bruce, Assistant Director of Parks and Rec for Forsyth County last week. The current status is that Phase IV and Phase V are currently being designed, but there have been some problems acquiring some of the land parcels necessary to complete the remaining two phases, however he is confident that it will happen. The cost for the remaining phases are estimated to be $7 million and should be completed in late 2012 or early 2013.

Below is a detailed map of the first three phases:
