Located in Gainesville Georgia at the 1996 Olympic Rowing Venue, the Canoe and Kayak Club offers recreational and competitive canoe and kayaking for ages 12 and up.  They have beginner to masters programs, various camps and clinics, and private instruction.  They also host local, regional, national and international competitions.  Click on the link above to see a list of the instructional clinics offered this summer.

LCKC is hosting Saturday Afternoon Instructional Sessions from 2-4pm at the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue boathouse, 3105 Clarks Bridge Road in Gainesville.  Sessions are $15 (free for LCKC members) and include:  Kayak Camping, July 21; Wet Exits and Rolling, Aug. 25; Georgia Canoeing Association, Sept. 22; Cold Weather Paddling and Safety, Oct. 20.

They are also hosting a Friday Moonlight Paddle series from 8:30 to 10pm on June 1, June 29, July 27, Aug. 31, and Sept. 28.  These sessions are $15 (free for members) and will also launch from the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue boathouse at 3105 Clarks Bridge Road in Gainesville.

Located in Dawsonville, Georgia, and offering the only indoor whitewater simulated pool in the world, The Outside World offers indoor and outdoor programs, as well as private instruction.

Indoor Classes (All $35/hour):

  • Introduction to rolling
  • Advanced rolling   
  • Strokes   
  • Maneuvering in current I   
  • Maneuvering in current II    

Outdoor Kayaking Classes:

  • Held on local rivers
  • Start at 9:00 am at the store and return to the store around 5pm   
  • Group Rate – $160 / person (groups consist of 2-6 people with a minimum 3 to 1 instructor/student ration
  • Itinerary: Groups first head to Lake Lanier to practice wet exits, rolls, paddling strokes, and rescue techniques.  After a lunch break, groups head to the Upper “Hooch” or an equivalent river where students can expect to be paddling for 3-4 hours.  There is a break at surfing rapid for a snack and also to practice surfing and rolls.  Groups return to the store around 5pm.

Private Instruction:

  • $299 1st person, $50 for 2nd. – Guarantees private instruction with instructor with no more than two people. Call ahead to schedule time and make reservation.

The Dam Store

Located on the corner of Buford Dam and Suwanee Dam Road, The Dam Store offers a Sunday paddle with an American Canoe Certified Kayak Instructor.  He takes trips to Settles Bridge (5 miles) and Abbotts Bridge (12 miles).  The trips cost $50/person, and are limited to 10 people.
