Lake Lanier Dock PermitsWhen the Corps of Engineers announced that they were holding a lottery for the 174 remaining dock permits on Lake Lanier, they weren’t joking. This Wednesday the drawing will be held live for anyone to view.

The Corps set up a special website which now lists the 277 successful applicants. The website will also host a live webcast of the drawing on October 28.

For the last two years the Corps imposed a moratorium on dock permits as drought struck the area and as they made sure precisely how many permits remained. An Environmental Impact Statement written in 2004 set the maximum number of boat docks available on the lake at 10,615. The likelihood of any more becoming available is very slim as another homeowner would have to relinquish their permit. Although precise figures are hold to determine, dock permits are commonly thought to add up to $100,000 to the value of a house.
