Lake Lanier SailingRegardless if you’re a novice or an expert, Lake Lanier has several academies that offer courses for all ranges of sailors.  There are basic instruction and certification courses for the beginner, as well as more specific instructional courses for the more advanced sailor.  Even if you aren’t the sailing type, but would enjoy a sailing cruise, there are sunset cruises available just for you.  Follow the links below to find the course and academy that suits your needs.

Lanier Sailing Academy offers a three-day Basic Sailing Certification Course for the sailor with little to no experience on the water and a two-day version of the same course for sailors with some recent sailing experience.  The three-day course is offered on either a Saturday or Sunday and costs $545 while the two-day course costs $445.  To see a list of available course dates click here.  Upon completion of the Basic Sailing Certification Course, sailors have the option of joining the Passport Sailing Club where members can enjoy any of their 22-27′ boats at any time.  Other courses offered by Lanier Sailing Academy include Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering, and a Coastal Navigation course.

Windsong Sailing Academy offers classroom certification and elective courses, as well as on-the-water instruction and recreational cruises.  They offer 5-hour ground school certification courses in Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Crusing, and Bareboat Chartering.  Each of these theory courses costs $199, and then have a paired instructional sailing course that provides the on-the-water training.  The  Instructional Sailing Outings that pair with the Basic Keelboat Sailing course cost $70 for two hours of instruction.  The Instructional Coastal Sailing Trips pair with the Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Chartering certification courses.  The prices of these instructional trips depend on experience and outing length.  Windsong Sailing Academy also offers elective courses which include Coastal Navigation, Advanced Coastal Cruising, and Celestial Navigation.  Other options include Fun Sails where sailors can rent sail boats for $70 for two hours of sailing anywhere on Lake Lanier and Sunset Cruises, which cost $70 for three hours of sailing.
