Lake Lanier has been dropping at a rapid rate. The water level has now dropped below 1060 to 1059.75, despite cooler temperatures. Lake Lanier has not seen rain in a long time. There is a chance of rain tomorrow but is it is a small chance of rain. Lake Lanier needs more than just a shower to make up for all of the lost water. Climatologists have said that this may be a dry winter for Georgia which in turn spells bad news for Lake Lanier. Lake Lanier is already down at 2009 levels with only a few weeks left in the 2011 hurricane season there is little hope left in getting a tropical system to dump large amounts of water in Lake Lanier. Be careful if you venture out on Lake Lanier, there are many submerged hazards. The Corps of Engineers has done a really good job of marking submerged hazards but there are many that are not marked. I’ll post another update whenever more information is released about the water levels at Lake Lanier.
