The Polar Bear Swim is an annual fundraising event held by the Lake Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club.
On the afternoon of News Year Day, people jump into the lake, despite the freezing temperatures. Jumpers compete for a variety of prizes from best jump and best costume to oldest and youngest jumper.
Located at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Venue in Gainesville, Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club (LCKC) continues to train Olympic class athletes for competitive water sports on Lake Lanier. Regattas, festivals and other events are sponsored by the LCKC.
