Lake Lanier Islands is the largest resort on Lake Lanier. They are built on top of hills that were among the land left standing when Lake Lanier was built. The islands were originally owned by the Georgia government but were were privatised in the early 1990s.
 
 
Lake Lanier Islands has much to offer, from a luxury hotel (Emerald Pointe Resort) and two golf courses to a waterpark, horse-back riding, camping.
 
 
The resort also plays host to major events on Lake Lanier including Independence Day fireworks, and “Magical Nights of Lights”, at Christmas time.
 
 
Local businessman Virgil Williams, the previous owner of the Arena Football League’s Georgia Force purchased the Islands from the KSL corporation in the summer of 2005 for $14.5 million.
