Unique entertainment and a fascinating cultural event unite at the racing of Dragon Boats on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Lake Lanier Olympic Park at the north end of the lake.
These boats look a bit alarming, but it’s all part of a rather ancient tradition.

This incomparable gathering of athletes, observers and folks simply out for a good time includes masterful dancing, unusual food and music you might never have heard before.
The dramatic Opening Ceremony at 12:30 PM is spectacular.
History of Dragon Boats on Lake Lanier
The Hong Kong Information Center in Atlanta conducted the 18th Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Atlanta in September 2013. Â The Festival took place at Lake Lanier on the same venue that hosted the 1996 Summer Olympic Games Rowing and Paddling events.
Activities commenced with races beginning at 9 am and the colorful Opening Ceremonies at noon. Â The race has grown from a handful of teams and a few spectators to an event which is one of the hallmark diversity events in the metro Atlanta area.
The event now boasts a field of more than 50 teams with over 5,000 spectators and a wide variety of Chinese artisans either performing or displaying their wares.
