US Army Ranger Open House Saturday 4-22-17

Army Ranger Open House April 22, 2017

The 5th Ranger Training Battalion holds its Ranger Open House on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

Army Rangers lead the way.  This select group of the best soldiers in the Army trains near Dahlonega, Georgia, at Camp Merrill.

The road into the Ranger camp used to be wide open — until the world changed on 9-11-2001.  Now, armed guards and barriers defend the entrance to the training grounds and barracks.

Once a year, civilians are welcomed into the camp to see a small fraction of how the Rangers train for battles to defend America and our allies.

Parking is limited at Camp Merrill, located at the end of northwestern end of Camp Wahsega Road at the intersection of Coopers Gap Road, outside of Dahlonega.  Parking in previous years has been allowed on Camp Wahsega Road, although the walk to the Ranger displays is almost a mile.

This is more than simply watching soldiers jump out of airplanes to parachute to earth or witnessing Rangers hit the ground running in a simulated war zone — being retrieved when the job is done.

This is an education into how our Rangers are ready to serve and protect each of us.  Anywhere they are needed.

God bless each and every Ranger — and their loved ones.

Hoo-RAH!!!
