Hundreds of legendary race cars from around the world will race to our delight at the beautiful Road Atlanta circuit in Braselton, Georgia, on April 21-23, 2017. It’s “breathtaking vintage racing.”
Porsche will be the featured marque when the Mitty returns to Road Atlanta. Porsche has had a long and storied history in motorsports, and many of the company’s classic race cars will be on display and on track at the Mitty.
Off the track, the infield will be buzzing with activity thanks to the Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty. Spectators will enjoy car corrals, vendors and an expansive hospitality tent. Meanwhile, it will all be surrounded by the buzzing excitement of HSR-sanctioned historic racing activities.
Renée Brinkerhoff will race her Porsche the weekend of April 21st as part of Renée’s training for La Carrera Panamericana.
It’s an important race for Renée, as it will be her first race since her accident in the 2015 La Carrera Panamericana.
In 2013, Renée and her 356 started a racing career – both at the age of 57. In their first car race of any kind and with no racing experience the duo made history when Renée became the first woman in the 30-year running of the infamous Mexican rally race, La Carrera Panamericana, to win her class behind the wheel of a 1956 Porsche 356 and in their debut year.
Imagine her family’s reaction when, at the age of 57, she told them she wanted to race a car. Not just any race – but one that was run in the early 50s. The race was cancelled after only five years — due in large part to the multiple fatalities, 27 to be exact. Revived in the 80s with new safety protocols, the auto-racing world still considers it was one of its most dangerous events.
Renée and her car can’t be stopped! The two are returning to the 30th anniversary of La Carrera Panamericana in October with their sights set on a top 10 overall finish – something that’s never been done by a woman driving a Porsche — or any other car for that matter.
Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty Presented by Hagerty is quite a spectacle.
