The Hall County Sheriff’s office invites motorcyclists to blast through dozens of red lights while they smile, wave and stop traffic for you.  Honest.  They call it “Thunder in the Mountains” and it’s all for a good cause.

Thunder in the Mountains is probably the best way on two wheels (except maybe for the Pan-Mass Challenge in Boston, which is on bicycles) to have a great time and raise money for people in need.  In this case, it’s for the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes.

This police-escorted ride will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014, with the first bikes leaving the top level of the Hall County Courthouse (25 Green Street, Gainesville, 30501) at about 10:30 AM.

The weather is going to be perfect for a ride in the mountains, so if you haven’t signed up yet, get there early.  My daughter, Esther, and I went last year and it was colder than the North Pole.

We still had fun.  There’s just nothing like having the police block off traffic to let a hundred bikes pass by with everyone waving and honking horns.

This year’s Thunder in the Mountains — a spectacular “3-hour tour” of North Georgia — is certain to end better than the 3-hour tour the Minnow took years ago.  You’ll see magnificent portions of Hall County and swoopy sections of White, Fannin, Union, Gilmer, Lumpkin and Dawson counties.

Thunder in the Mountains is a police-escorted three-hour romp in curvy roads.

After the ride we’ll all head to Hall County’s Laurel Park for even more fun.  The Hall County Sheriff’s office will have food, music, door prizes, a 50/50 drawing and lots of fun for all!!!

Throw a leg over whatever you ride, pop somebody pretty or sassy on the back, get some gas and ride with the pack for the children in the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes!

The whole shebang only costs $25, plus $5 for your rider.  A total of $30 goes to charity and zero dollars go to tickets for running a hundred stop signs and red lights.  That, friends, is a deal.

Call Deputy Chad Mann or Tamara Smith for additional information at (770)531-6900.
