We regret to inform you of the death of a woman whose body was found in Lake Lanier by fishermen on Friday morning, August 2, 2013.
Hall County Sheriff Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks notified lakelanier.com early Saturday evening that the name of the woman was incorrectly reported previously; evidently, her first and middle names were transposed. We regret the error.
Michelle Diane Baxter, age 32, of Gainesville, was found in a cove on the Chattahoochee River across from Don Carter State Park around 8 AM on Friday.
Authorities said there were no obvious signs of foul play and that a woman fitting Ms. Baxter’s description was seen swimming in the area on Thursday evening.
The medical examiner is expected to determine the precise cause of death next week.
