A few years ago, we were not certain who owned/maintained Shoal Creek Park in Buford, GA. Now we’re (almost) positive it is operated by Lanier Islands (which once was Lake Lanier Islands).
Shoal Creek used to be one of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) recreation areas. Reservations these days are made through the Islands. Things change.
Please Note: There is no truth to the rumor that USACE lost Shoal Creek Park to Lanier Islands in a cornhole tournament that got out of control.
If you are exceptionally adept at playing cornhole, you might challenge the folks at the Islands. You might win your very own day-use park on Lake Lanier — complete with a boat ramp and floating dock. At least until the Corps wins it back.
Shoal Creek Park on Lake Lanier officially closes at sunset. The boat launch is open at hours for folks who like to fish at night and those who watch submarine races.
The park is located off of Shadburn Ferry Road in the southeastern portion of the lake. Shadburn Ferry Road intersects both Buford Dam Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near Buford, Georgia.
