Several trustworthy news media are reporting a drowning on Lake Lanier.

AJC.com and Channel 2 News in Atlanta are quoting DNR spokesman Sgt. Mike Burgamy as saying metro Atlanta resident Jeffrey Nause, 44, dove into Lake Lanier from a sailboat that was near Lake Lanier Islands shortly after midnight on Saturday, August 18, 2012.  The victim submerged and never returned to the surface.

Recovery teams are searching for Mr. Nause’s body in water that is 70-140 feet deep.

Other people were on the boat when the accident occurred.  Alcohol may have contributed to the death, according to DNR reports.

We send our condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Nause.
