The Folk Life Festival at North Georgia’s Unicoi State Park is your big chance to learn to live like a pioneer — while retiring to a luxurious air-conditioned comfy room after dining on an all-you-can-eat buffet of scrumptious food that pioneers couldn’t rustle up if the James Boys held them at gunpoint.
This year’s festival will be held Friday, July 27th & Saturday, July 28th at Unicoi State Park’s Lodge.
Saturday morning offers a special treat. Thirteen-year-old Nathaniel Samsel of Clarkesville will play his dulcet dulcimer for you. Nathaniel won the 2011 Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Champion … and the 2011 Colorado state mountain dulcimer championship … and the 2010 Mideast regional championship.
(So what has YOUR 13-year-old been up to? Huh?)
Have fun watching mountain-skill demonstrations of spinning, candle dipping and blacksmithing, as well as old-fashioned games and dancing.
Concerts will feature traditional Appalachian and old-time mountain music. Featured bands Keltic Kudzu and String Theory will make you want to sell your house and live in the woods.
Then, take your honey on a $2 hayride and admit you were only kidding about living in the woods.
