Vogel State Park: Perky Cabins & Old Tyme Fun

Some people in this world don’t care if they ever while away a few hours, conferrin’ with the flowers and/or consulting with the rain.  They’re too busy working themselves into a dither.

If you are able to get away from the flying monkeys where you work, you will love the newly renovated cabins at North Georgia’s Vogel State Park, a dozen miles or so south of Blairsville on State Route 129.

If you think “camping” requires indoor plumbing, cozy beds, a fireplace, a cable-fed flat-screen TV and doors with locks that bears cannot pick, you’ll love Vogel State Park.

Spend a magnificent morning loving life on a paddleboat on Lake Trahlyta fishing or lazily floating.

Not in your budget right now?  Not to worry.  Pick one of the 100 campsites to lay (lie?) your head in the Great Outdoors.

Ask about the “Perfect Neighbor Guarantee!”  (Some restrictions apply.)

On Saturday nights, Vogel has free music at the lakeside pavilion, where I once heard the famous Skillet Lickers play.  Stop by with family and friends, to see if they’re performing.

There are comfy trails around the lake for little girls in gingham dresses.  Tin men will laugh at the trails with steep hills.

Blood Mountain and the Appalachian Trail are in the distance.  If you head north, your friends can pick you up at Mount Katahdin in Maine … if you’re looking for some serious exercise.

Too strenuous?  Try the fishing rodeo for kids that’s scheduled for June 14, 2014.  Don’t tell your kids you love them, prove it by taking them fishing.

If you love history, you’ll love the CCC Museum at Vogel State Park.

Whether you spend an hour or two or a week or two, you’ll love Vogel State Park.
