The leaders of Gainesville-Hall ’96, which operates the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue, have wisely chosen to invest $10 million to renovate and update the site made world-famous by the 1996 Olympic Games.

As the 20th anniversary of the Olympics approaches, new life is being breathed into the facility which still provides training and competition for canoe, kayak and rowing events that draw athletes globally.

A groundbreaking ceremony at 4 PM on November 12, 2015 will celebrate the launch of this major revitalization project at Clarks Bridge Park on Lake Lanier.  Congressman Doug Collins will officiate.  Special guests include: Senator Butch Miller, Hall County Commission Chairman Dick Mecum, Gainesville Mayor Danny Dunagan and representatives from Blaze Sports, Georgia’s Paralympic Sports club.

The first phase of spending will bring improvements to the Lake Lanier Olympic Venue to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  The initial $1.7 million will purchase accessible ramps from the Olympic plaza to the finish tower, accessible restroom facilities and other enhancements to make the site navigable by everyone.

Funds have been contributed by our local government, private corporations and a grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission.
