There’s No World Like SnowWorld at Lanier Islands on MLK Day

One day, when no one was looking, Lake Lanier Islands changed its name to Lanier Islands.  We’re not sure when or why that happened.  Just one of those mysteries of life.  One thing is for sure, there are still plenty of considerate, community minded, creative folks there.  Lanier Islands’ plans for a Give Back Event in observation of Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 19, 2015, is proof.

That’s the day when Lanier Islands will give half-priced admissions to the resort’s newest attraction — SnowWorld — to guests who bring bags of gently used clothing that will be donated to Goodwill of North Georgia.

Lanier Islands has a heart for the needy.  Lanier Islands’ Vice President of Sales & Marketing Stephanie Orr says, “While we have created a fun-focused, snow-themed attraction here at the resort for the enjoyment of our guests, we are well-aware of the fact that both the cold and unemployment are very real concerns for countless families in need throughout Georgia.”

Stephanie went on to say, “In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. – who once said, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?’ – we are asking our guests to show true generosity by bringing bags of gently used clothes, sweaters, coats and shoes to our gates … all of which will be donated to our friends at Goodwill of North Georgia.”

Clothes that are donated by guests will be sold at Goodwill locations around North Georgia at thrift store prices.

Once inside SnowWorld, patrons will be treated to a full-day of fun, including:

  • 9 thrilling speed slides
  • Polar Plummet: a 13-lane tube slide
  • 4 snow play zones
  • skating at the Polar Rink
  • 8 family-friendly eateries
  • carnival rides
  • and firepits throughout for roasting marshmallows and making s’mores.

Stephanie concluded by saying, “those who participate in this Give Back event will be supporting the programs of a vital non-profit organization that is focused on giving people a hand up through training and job opportunities.”

Lanier Islands SnowWorld will be open on January 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Please Note:  SnowWorld at Lanier Islands will close for the season earlier than first expected on Sunday, January 25, 2015.
