Lake Lanier is fabulous, but sometimes you just need to head for the mountains.  The Dawson County Office of Tourism Development brings you tidings of 40% discounts on lodging at Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge — in the shadow of Springer Mountain and the Appalachian Trail — that don’t expire until Thursday, February 26, 2015.

The lodge was already fabulous years ago when I stayed there.  Then, they perked it up and made it even nicer.

The buffet served at the lodge is suitable, in my humble, for even the most persnickety foodie (unless they’re just whiners who can’t be pleased with anything less than Wolfgang Puck’s finest).

Please Note:  What kind of parents name their kid “Wolfgang”?  Is that like a “Boy Named Sue” thing to Austrians?  Thank you.

Always wanted to camp near and/or on the Appalachian Trail but you-know-who thinks camping is what you do when you lose Wi-Fi for an hour?

You’ll both love staying at Amicalola Falls State Park!  They even have a real waterfall!  A big sucker that is 729 feet tall with a path and/or ladder alongside.  There’s always something fun going on at Amicalola Falls.

If you can’t find any, make your own.

40% Discount on Lodging at Amicalola Falls State Park

The 40% discount applies at the mountaintop lodge and/or cabins and camping down below, now through Thursday, February 26, 2015.

When you call, ask for the “Winter40” discount.  This deal is only good for new reservations.  Yes, they have other “certain restrictions.”  What doesn’t?

The “Winter40″ discount is not available on Christmas, New Year’s Eve or Valentine’s Day.

This deal is not available online.  You must call THIS number to reach the reservations desk at Amicalola Falls State Park to get this deal: 706-265-8888. Mention the “Winter40″ discount.

Yes, I called.  Yes, that’s the correct number.  Yes, they knew all about the “Winter40″ discount.  No, I don’t think you’ll get the runaround and be charged a zillion dollars more.

Have fun.
