With the possible exception of Gainesville’s notoriety for being the Poultry Capital of America, we don’t receive much global attention.  Even our Bridge to Nowhere downtown doesn’t get its share of the world’s notice.  Then, once a year, the Petit Le Mans races come to Road Atlanta and we’re the center of the universe for automotive racing fans!

The gates are now open at the 17th Petit Le Mans Powered by Mazda, set for Saturday, October 4, 2014.

This is the first year for the TUDOR Championship and Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup season.  The finale will be one of the most exciting weekends ever at Road Atlanta.  More than 50 entries in four different classes of competition will take the green flag for a ten-hour race into the night.

This four-day festival of speed includes five exciting supporting events:

  • Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge
  • Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series
  • Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama
  • Prototype Lites and
  • the Mazda-MX5 Cup.

Tickets are available at the gate for a wide range of options that let you do everything but drive the cars in the race.  Remember, kids 12 and under are admitted free with a paying adult.

There is nothing — nothing — like being trackside for the sights, sounds, smells, vibration and taste of the Petit Le Mans races.  (Well, almost nothing.)

Drive a rusty Yugo and don’t want to be recognized?  Pffft.  Not to worry.  Park outside the gates for free, grab a shuttle and buy a fancy new Ferrari cap.  We won’t tell.
