Aaron Mann of USA Canoe/Kayak brings us good news about Lanier Canoe/Kayak Club member Riley Bruner’s “very strong performance” at the Olympic Hopes Regatta.

Athletes aged between 15-17 from almost two dozen countries vied for top finishes at the 2014 Olympic Hopes Regatta in Piestany, Slovakia.

We’re happy to report that Team USA went home with two medals.

In the Men’s C2 U16 category, Riley Bruner of Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club and Kenny Kasperbauer of Gig Harbor won a silver medal in their very strong performance in a 200m race.

This was the second medal for Team USA at the 2014 Olympic Hope Regatta.  In their 500m races, the team of Kasperbauer and Bruner won their heat and went on to finish 6th in the “A” Final.

In her first year of eligibility for ICF competition, 15-year-old Azusa Murphy of the Seattle Canoe Club made a terrific first impression in the C1 Women’s category.  Murphy found herself racing against older athletes as she competed in the Under-18 age group.  After two fourth-place finishes in the C1 Women’s 500m and 1000m events, Murphy put on the afterburners in her 200m race where she earned a bronze medal.

Congratulations to one and all for their outstanding performances.
