It’s too late to learn to talk like a pirate because the Pirates of Lanier Poker Run begins on July 17, 2014. But it’s not too late to raise money for kids in need!

If you’re like most landlubbers, you probably think a “poker run” is some sort of 5K where people in spandex and weensy shorts play poker while they jog. Ha! Wrong!
A poker run is … well, nobody really knows, but they’re having one at Lake Lanier Islands where people will launch boats to putter, zip and zoom on Lake Lanier to collect money for charity.
The children at “Camp Sunshine,” “Camp Twin Lakes,” and the “Boys and Girls Clubs of Hall County” are the recipients of the proceeds from this year’s event.
The poker run has (almost) nothing to do with women dressing up like wenches and slinky piratesses. Even clueless bilge rats not dressed like pirates are mostly welcome to attend.
Please Note: Ever wonder why so many pirates wear eye patches? Because they’d go mad if they used both eyes gazing at pirate lasses. Probably.
Definition of a Poker Run That Won’t Help At All
A boat poker run is an event where the participants go from one designated stop on the lake to another by boat. At each stop they will pick up a playing card until they have completed all of the stops and have five cards. When they return to Sunset Cove the poker hands are evaluated at the “Casino” then scored and the best poker hand wins the grand prize. This year the cards will be in sealed envelopes and are not to be opened until the player returns to the Casino.
See? What did I tell you? But it doesn’t matter. Just say, “Aaarrrrghhh.” Have some fun in the sun and give some loot to kids in need.

Welcome Crew at Entrance to Lake Lanier Islands Resort at the Roundabout. Out of Towner’s will be greeted and directed to boat ramps, secure trailer parking, Sunset Cove docks and hotel.
Thursday July 17: 6:00 PM-10:00 PM
Meet and Greet at Gianni’s Italian Bistro & Pizzeria , Lake Lanier Islands Resort, music, great food and full bar. Sign up for Pirate Treasure Hunt.
Friday July 18: 11:30 AM-3:00 PM
“Cheeseburger in Paradise” Raft Up on the Lake– We will meet at the dam at 11:30 AM and enjoy a short cruise to the Raft up location— Once there, those that would like to explore the lake should do so—We will continue cooking fresh burgers until 2:00 PM and have the The AVC Stereo Competition—This is a free lunch for registered participants provided by Norman’s Landing Restaurant in Cumming, GA.
Friday July 18: 12:00 Noon-10:00 PM
Registration, Mandatory “Captains’ Meeting”(8:00 PM), Sign up for Pirate Treasure Hunt and “Welcome Party” at the Grand Hall, Sunset Cove Parking lot, Lake Lanier Islands Resort— After the Captain’s Meeting (8:00 PM), there will be a event auction hosted by Four Seasons Auction Gallery., Buffet banquet, adult beverages available Hall and the “MTAMA” Vendor Village. The HUGE After event Party, the “Billy Howell Ford and Lincoln” Pirate Treasure Hunt Award ceremony, the Singleton Marine Trophy Presentation ceremony, the AVC Stereo Competition trophies, the GEICO Poker Run Prize Ceremony, the HUGE Fireworks show all at Sunset Cove, Lake Lanier Islands Resort. A Live band will be playing on the floating stage at Big Beach in front of Gianni’s Italian Bistro adjacent to Big Beach docks D, E and F. Gianni’s Italian Bistro and Sunset Cove Beach Cafe & Club will be open for dinner and libations until 11:00 PM.
