We regret to inform you of a drowning on Lake Lanier that occurred on Sunday, June 23, 2013, the second full day of summer.

GA Department of Natural Resources Ranger Sgt. Mike Burgamy notified lakelanier.com at 4:35 PM that a 33-year-old white male from Lawrenceville had been declared dead by authorities a few minutes earlier.

The name of the victim was not released, pending notification of family members.

The man went under and did not resurface at about 3 PM, while swimming with friends and playing on a large float near the Two-Mile Island chain on the Forsyth side of Lake Lanier.

A 45-minute search by dive teams from Forsyth and Hall County emergency agencies led to the discovery of the body near Vann Tavern Park.  There is no suspicion of foul play.

We extend our condolences to the friends and family of the person who lost his life.
