Lake Lanier: How low can you go?

The Army Corps of Engineers has announced it will increase the amount of water released from Lake Lanier, due to continuing drought conditions here and downstream.

For the past several months, the Corps has made releases sufficient to meet minimum flow requirements.  No rain is forecast for the Lake Lanier and West Point Lake regions, so increased releases are mandated to meet the needs of Lake Seminole and Walter George Lake.

Lake Lanier’s water level is likely to decrease by 6″ per week for the next few weeks, but that is only an estimate and there is no certain date as to when the increased flow will cease.

Please be careful when navigating Lake Lanier.  Every day the water goes down, you’re exposed to new hidden dangers.

Let’s pray for more rain, shall we?
